Welcome Spring!

Three Rules of Work:
  1. Out of clutter find simplicity.
  2. From discord find harmony.
  3. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.   -Albert Einstein

Spring always makes me want to de-clutter and spruce up my home. I love the feeling of spaciousness and freshness that spring cleaning can bring after a long winter indoors. Finding the time and energy to do it, however, is another matter. How lovely it would be to have someone come in and do it for me!

This evening I will be making a presentation at the Richmond Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers, a group of folks who de-clutter for a living. I imagine that their work is very gratifying, helping others find simplicity and organization in their living and working spaces.

Sometimes, though, the process of simplifying can produce discord within families. We humans can get so attached to our stuff! And it's natural to disagree on what is worth keeping and what needs to be thrown away.

In my presentation, I will be sharing some ways to open up lines of communication so that everyone's needs can be heard and, hopefully, agreement can be reached on how to proceed to everyone's satisfaction. While we may not always be in unison on everything, at least we can be in harmony.

Difficulty doesn't have to be a roadblock. It may just be an opportunity to find a better way to go.
